Mekong River is one of the world's 10 rivers in its river length and has great influences upon nature and societies of the Indo-China Peninsula. The name "MEKONG" originate in Thai language, Mae Nam Khong), 4880km length. The source of the Mekong River is in Tibet mountains and is called Dza Chu River (River of Rock). After running through very narrow valley paralling Yangz Jiang and Salween River, the Mekong reach to YungNan Province of China and is called Lancang Jiang (Turbulent River). Via Golden Triangle, the crossing of China, Myanmer and Laos boarder, the Mekong flow into Vientiane Plain. The term, Lower Mekong means downstream segment from the point. There are some notorious rapids for French navigation plan in colonial period before the Mekong get to Cambodia, and the last segment is the Mekong Delta in Viet Nam, which distributes grate influeces to agriculture, especially paddy fields there. According to a sketch on the right, we can see this long river with some segments hereinafter.
Day 1: Saigon - Cai Be - Chau Doc (L)
08.00am Pick up at your hotel in HCMC then depart for Cai Be. On arrival, have a motorized boat ride to see round Cai Be floating market with local people being selling, buying, exchanging goods from their boats. Walk around to see orchard, rice paper making, rice scrispies producing process…
Stop for a rest, have Vietnamese lunch including tropical fruits. Boat through a village to see peaceful tranquil life of villagers, admire marvelous natural setting of Mekong Delta region. Take a boat trip through some islands and cross Mekong river to Vinh Long. See the making of incense sticks on the way to Chau Doc town. Check in on arrival. Visit the Sam mountain, the caved pagoda, enjoy the sunset over the Vietnamese - Cambodian frontier. Overnight at hotel in Chau Doc.
Day 2: Chau Doc - Hon Chong - Ha Tien (B/L)
Breakfast. Take a row boat trip to visit floating houses with caged fish breeding, a village of Cham ethnic minority, Moslem mosque, towel weaving. Visit Lady Chua Xu temple (lady lord of this area) before leaving for Hon Chong. See round a pagoda on grottoes. Contemplate the beautiful sunset in the country. Overnight at hotel in Ha Tien.
Day 3: Ha Tien - Can Tho (B)
Breakfast. Visit Thach Dong cave, Vietnam - Cambodia border, Mui Nai beach and walk around a fishing village. Leave for Can Tho. Stop to visit paddy field, orchards, tranquil village. Check-in on arrival. Free for explore the town by night. Overnight at hotel in Can Tho.
Day 4: Can Tho - Cai Rang floating market - Saigon (B)
Breakfast. Have a three-hour boat trip, that will take you to absorb yourself in admiring the Cai Rang floating market and its surroundings with the busy sence right at the time. Walking around to visit a rice husking mill and enjoy tropical fruit (free) in an orchard. See the peaceful life in the rural area. Have lunch in Can Tho. After lunch, the bus will take you back to Saigon, on the way back stop to visit Vinh Long market and Mekong Rest Stop in My Tho. Arrive in Saigon at around 19h00. End of our services.
